I want to reformat an old computer. what do i need to do and do i need any of original cds? cos i dont have em

its not running bad just think it could be better just using as second or third comp but like to mess around and reformatting a computer is only thing i have nt done to one yet.

its not necessary that u need to have original cd...therez no harm in re-formatin..coz i have done it 15 times on my pc.
yes. u need the original cd. It is required if u want to reformat. If u dont have the cd, try and contact the company which u bought ur computer from. Maybe they will give u a original cd, or u need to buy.
I am not sure what you really intend to do.You reformat a drive, you lose everything. And if you do not have the installation cd, you end up with a big paperweight.

Unless you want to run Linux or something; that could be a good idea! That is what I did with my old computer. Download one of the many free distribution (Ubuntu, Knoppix, etc). You will need to download an ISO file which you can burn to a cd/dvd. This will be bootable. You can even get Ubuntu to send you a DVD for free.

The cd will let you repartition/reformat your hard disk during the set up process.

The only thing you will need to do is to make the cdrom drive the first boot drive. That can be done in the bio setup page - usually by pressing the delete or F10 key during startup.
