"safely remove hardware" icon was showing in the system tray for HDD- how to remove it.?

if we add any usb drive, the system tray shows "safely remove hardware" till this drive is attached. But it wont happened for hard drives. In my system it is happennig for hard drive also. Pls let me know how to remove it.

If you have Windows XP or Vista, you can just pull the USB cable out. The O/S should disconnect the device safely.
I am not sure. But the computer may not be detecting it properly?
Just restart your machine or restart the "Removable Storage" service.
you've seen always safely remove hardware' when you connect USB because when you want to disconnect the USB you must click on that ,then dialog box get opens,select the drive,in which you've inserted memory card or other secondary device,then click on stop,wait for 10 seconds,then you'll see notification that it is safe to remove hardware.
if you disconnect USB directly ,it could damage data, unable to reading next time & many other problems,so you must do it before unplug USB.
Some times it will come and some it wont come there is no problem you remove the hardware.
