Bought computer at yard sale and is locked up...?

Put in your XP disk and try to boot off of it. If that fails, press F8 repeatedly while it boots and select a DOS boot. Change directory to your CD and try to run the Setup from your XP disk. Do a clean install, not an upgrade or repair. She probably has the system full of viruses and spyware.
When XP asks for a serial number, enter the one on the sticker on your machine or on the card that came with the computer's disks... you do have a license, right?
Remove the CMOS battery.
If it's a CMOS password - i.e. it comes up right after you turn the machine on - there's a jumper on the motherboard that will clear the CMOS settings and reset them back to factory defaults.
Where the jumper is depends on what kind of motherboard you have. It will usually be marked "CMOS" or something like that.
well if she does not ahve the repair disks that may have come with the computer then you dont want to clear the hard drive because you loose the os. The best you coudl do is go and ask the lady she bought it from or try a recovery program. Some exsist but they are ususaly not free adn rather expensive ($60-200)
you have to get a disk to reset it. try hitting F7 (i think) when the computer is starting up. try to reboot it through the menus. if not get a windows program and try to install it.
If there is a recovery partition on it then that can be used. You didn't mention the make or model of the computer so can't give you specific instructions -- go to the manufacturer's website.
You could try booting into safe mode and logging on as administrator. Create a new user and get on that way.
Or buy an installation disc and install fresh. Probably still a bargain.
First you are going to need to reinstate your system. There are different programs that you can get off the internet/buy at walmart that are able to help you do so. It wipes out your computer system and gives you a new system.

if you can't get in run ebcd software you need to burn that on disk in order to run it. you can get ebcd software from that website http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2006/04...
This will help you in creating a new password. make sure to leave a blank password when running ebcd. then change the password in user account settings.
yes its quit simple first things first do you have any of the factory software i.e. cd's if so look for a system reboot disk and slap that in, and the computer should take care of the rest just fallow the on screen instructions a snap! If not you can get an oem copy of windows XP sp2 load it in the tray, dont wory if the computers is on and at the point where you cant log on because of the password, just load the cd in the tray and then hit the reset button, when the system reloads it will say on screen load from disk and select yes and vwala!! follow the on screen instructions and just like that you will have a new operating system, a completely erased hard drive meaning no passwords unless you set them your self. Ohh and before i forget you can you use your current operating system cd and do the same thing instead of buying a new operating system cd. hope that helped if not just send me a line and i will walk you through the process.
