Weak Computer Audio?

MY PC is a Compaq Sr1810NX and it came with powered speakers. Does the system need this added amplification because of a weak or inferior sound card? Even with the amplifier turned on full I get only barely enough sound. What can I expect from an upgraded sound card? Any recommendations?

Answers:
PC's by themselves do not provide allot of sound. Have you checked the controls for your sound card? Go to the control panel and review the settings.

How is your powered speakers powered? AC or battery?
If it is the battery your batteries may need to be replaced. Note also the volume is controlled on your powered speaker on the one speaker that has the power input if AC.

Yes a sound caqrd can add alot of volume.
