Stand by problem?

HI, I have a friend that his computer stays all the time on standby and it wont like start any programs at all. I told him to unplug the cord and then restart like a minute after and the computer seems to work , bios start and all that but afterwards seem to go automaticly on standby.
What can i do to help the guy?

Thanks!

Answers:
If a computer freezes after being on standby mode, thats because it has a low capacity RAM ( less than 256MB )
I had the same problem but when I upgraded my computer's RAM to 512MB The problem was solved.
But if your friend doesn't want to upgrade his computer he have to follow this way to turn off this action. :

Right click on display > Click on Properties > In Display properties click on Screen saver > Click on power > In Power options properties put the System standby & System hibernates on Never mode.

Hope it helps.
have you disabled standby? if it goes into standby after a certain amount of time then that is what it was set for you can change this in "power options" in control panel
