AMD's Future on Multicore Processors?

Reading that Intel's Quad Core processors were (in the broadest form) essentailly two E6700 processors stacked with eachother AMD considered this a hack. Even though I totally support Intel's processors , Im curious about AMDs future. Is AMD on to something by waiting? Or will Intel probablly lead?

Answers:
For a non-business/marketing expert, it appears that AMD has just given up. I don't know what's going on in that company, but ATI's new video cards have just been a failure compared to nVidia, and they haven't released new processors in quite a while. Either they're planning something really incredible and are keeping it secret (because there's no good news about Barcelona anywhere) or we're going to end up in an Intel/nVidia dominated world.

And to the guy below me, you confused me with Ray...
I am sure they have something planned.
Although I have always used Intels in the PCs I build I feel AMD keeps Intel honest and keeps prices down through compitition.
A good competitor never lets their competition get a clear lead but this is what AMD has done. The three fastest processors on the market are Intel.

With so many processors on the market and major differences in performance not explained by clock speed, most people don't have a clue what processor is faster. If they did AMD sales would be much lower.

One is allways jumping over the other AMD is bringing out there flag ships for debut in 4 to 6 mos A very serious top end line. Truely fast quads and an eight core line.AM-2s and Fx s will be very cheap indeed. They already have Asus making boards capable of both core-2 to quad and quad to eights Looks like Intels' gonna be slapped bald headed this time and there gonna have a hard time recovering Asus bought out ATI so guess whos going to be in the video driver seat on those boards Its going to be a real SHABANG ! I just read Ray_8128 refferance to TOMs Hardware cpu comparison and a cpu bench mark but when you read it take notice that Amds top end proccessors were never compared ! No L-2s and no socket Fs' NONE Why is that No amd top end dual proccessor boards or singles either The two proccessor boards by intel are the ones at the top!. You have to have two things to make a comparison So quit looking at just one. MR GOD I AM TRULY SORRY and would have put this in before but I thought I editted before anyone had seen it
