Is it expensive to upgrade an AMD turion processor to go faster ?

you could overclock it in which case you need to install cooling options which could range from $20 to $80 depending on how fancy you want to get. The Turion should support overclocking.
On the plus side though - cooling systems are pretty cross compatible and would fit into any new system you got later.
a Tuniq tower (huge, but silent) will keep your machine on ice and do it for under $60.

you can also look into water cooling options but those ramp up in expenses over and above $100.
considering that you can't just make a processor go faster, you have to replace it, yes. You will probably need to also get a new motherboard so it has the same socket. Then, depending on the rest of your hardware some of it might alkso need to be upgraded if the new motherboard doesn't support it. Such as a DDR2 motherboard when you have DDR ram. or a PCI-E Video card slot when you have a AGP card.
It just depends on what you consider "expensive". Compared to a few years ago, dual core processors have seriousally dropped in prices. I just upgraded my old processor to the AMD FX 64 and I got it for a little over two hundered.
Considering that you could be purchasing one of the fastest chips ever made, then I don't think they are that expansive.
Keep this in mind. As new technology comes out, prices on the older technology will fall.
