Question about video cards and needing vista?
Answers:
Short answer - No and yes
You do not need Vista to use this card. It will give you excellent performance on an XP system
DirectX10 is another matter though. This will fundamentally change the way graphics cards deal with data, and should mean a significant improvement in the level of detail and effects which can be crammed onto the screen. DX10 will only work in Vista and even then the card will have to be DX10 compliant. As the majority of systems will not be compliant for quite a while yet developers will still ensure that their games play on machines with DX9 on them for a while yet, but those machines won't get all the bells and whistles.
If you want to run DX10 games, then yes.

But if you plan to remove your current system into Vista, this card would be best and don't even think of other
You don't need Vista for this card. IT will work greatly on XP but Direct X 10 is only for Vista...
