I got a used comp.with windowsxp but it is password protected is there a way to wipe out the password?

YES!!! I have a HP computer but if you find your computer similer to mine, then I'm sure you can do it.
First: Reboot your computer
Second: When the first screen comes up, hold F8 to enter safemode. You only need safe mode without networking.
Third: Here is the part that maybe your computer don't have:
You should see an account which you never seen before. On my Hp computer. It says "Administrator". There is 2 accounts on my safe mode, one is my own account, and the other is preplaced "Administrator" account which is not password protected.
Forth: Click Adiministrator account and you should see a desktop.
Fifth: Go to My Computer, Control Panel, User Accounts, and click on the account that is password protected.
Sixth: Click Change Password
Seventh: This time, it doesn't ask for the old password, so just type your new password and click ok, or apply.
Eighth: Restart your computer and go to normal mode
Ninth: Once you get to welcome screen, type in your new password and ta da!

Yes, you will have to re-formatt your computer loosing all information that has been store on it along with the operating system. WHen you boot up pres F8 and go inside the boot menu. Or get ahold of a new operating system CD like Microsoft XP and install, it will delete the old version

It depends on which password is popping up. If Windows XP starts, and then Windows XP asks for a password, you can start the machine in safe mode by pressing F8 when the machine starts, and then selecting "Boot in Safe Mode" from the menu that appears. Then log in using "Administrator" as the user, go to the control panel, and then change the passwords for everyone right there. You can also make your own users right there too.
If it is NOT the XP password, but rather the machine password, you need to open the machine's case and look for the BIOS battery - read the jumper information on the motherboard for what jumpers to set to reset the BIOS - once that is done, there will be no password anymore.
If it is a laptop, you need to look for the machine's master reset pin location. When you find that, press and hold that while pressing the power button, and the BIOS will be reset, and the password cleared.
did it come with a restore disk? [or two]
do a complete restore, put the disks in while its on, then shut down and when you reboot, the disks should load.
