and download the memory advisor tool.youll have allow for the active x control but its harmless. it will tell you exactly what how much RAM you have, how many empty slots and the max you can go.It also give you a list of compatible memory sticks to choose from
go to crucial.com they have memory there pretty cheap. i bought 2 gigs for my laptop for $80.00
Get Kingston SO-DIMM or FB-DIMM.
OCZ Ram is known to work well with dells. Of the two dells i had, never had a compatibility issue. As for knowing what RAM is compatible with your rig, consult your owners manual. you need to know what type your motherboard takes (DDR, DDR2, etc) and what speeds. After that, just find a stick (or sticks if your motherboard allows dual channel[check that too]).
that ram you just looked at is pretty cheap and probably generic ram, which means it will not be good at handling multiple programs, go to tigerdirect.com and go to memory/ram on the left, click DDR2 Ram and click pc4200 on the left, click 512MB, get some good brand, like Corsair or OCZ, Crucial or Kingston. They usually has cheap prices.
Hope it helps!
goto tigerdirect and buy some good memory
