Hi, i was loking for a computer to buy. Is HP slimline S3100Y a good choice.?

The computer is for $499 at office depot with a monitor and printer. It has 2 GB RAM. 250 GB hard drive and windows vista home basic. Is this a good choice. If not, what other brand should i get?

We should be able to do the same configuration but we will use Vista Home Premium plus better name brand parts and service. As you the vista home basic can't do that much other than email and simple tasks, premium is the way to go.

It has good specs, and as long as you don't play any newer games or use the latest CAD or Photoshop it should do you very well. The reason it won't work well with these other programs is the video intensive nature of these programs and the fact that it uses onboard video with shared ram. I hope this helps.
