Something you should do before you take it anywhere is to defragment your hard drive. If you never do that, it could be a big reason for running slowly.
Most likely if you just tell them that it's running slowly and you want them to look over it and tweak it and clean it up a bit, they'll take care of it. Some common things they may do is defragment the registry, check for any malware that may be causing it to run slowly, maybe suggest or install a memory optimization program if your problem seems memory-related. Depending on the source of the problem, they may try a lot of other things.
You could clean up your hard drive with out reloading the Operating System (OS),
If you reload the OS you have to reload all your programs, custumize the desktop, etc.
I would suggest you do this instead:
Get a reputable Anti-virus, anti-spyware, and Trojan removal programs, clean your system of any virus, spyware, and trojans. Then optimize your computer.
Chances are that it will be as fast or faster than it was when you first started it up.
Another thing you can do is add more ram to the system.
