I have 256 mg of ram is this good for my computer?it runs slow at time & freezes up.?

I have defraged & deleted my cookies & files.it runs a little better after but than works slow why?

Answers:
It runs slow because you only have 256 mg of RAM.

I don't know what speed or any other details about your machine, but 1 Gigabyte is the typical standard for modern computers. I would recommend a memory upgrade. It is pretty easy to buy a 1 Gigabyte stick and replace your existing memory. It will make a lot of difference in your performance.

A memory upgrade is the natural next step to upgrade your computer. You did the right things to clean it up and improve performance. If you reduce the number of programs that are running at the same time you will also improve performance, but Windows has a lot going on in the background. Press Alt-Ctrl-Delete keys at the same time and bring up the Task Manager then click on the processes tab. That will tell you what is being run currently. Go to the Performance Tab and it will tell you how much CPU time is being used. The Page File Usage History is a measurement of your RAM and how much is being used.
You say you have 256 MB of ram!

For normal working this will do but you will not enjoy broadband facilities with that much speed and flourish. I would suggest doubling your RAM capacity. Add 256 MB and enjoy your PC and many more facilities like games, music etc. that broadband offers.
YOu computer is using your hard drive for memory, Caled virtual Memeory. The Hard drive is the slowest thing on a PC, thus as windows frees up a bit of memory and puts it on the hard drive, then swaps it back again when needed (this take time - You notice this as it seems to "Freeze" Press CTRL-SHIFT-ESC goto performance tab. If Commit Charge (K) Total is Larger than Physical Memory (K) then this is a clear indicator of this. Windows XP requires about 256M on it''s own - I guess Vista would simply require even more...
What processor do you have and how up to date is your video card? These would be my first questions. After that, i would consider the ram.
You atleast need 512, atleast. 1 gig prefered. 256 ram can barely run photoshop (turning off everything else in the process manager, lol) get moire ram man, its very cheap
May be this is a problem of your windows but it is better to increase you ram to 512 or 1GB

It works very well.
Most computer users have been trained that if you want more speed for your computer, then add more memory. Well, this is true, in certain circumstances. But for most of the times, it really is just bad files in your registry files. Corrupted or missing registry files can make your computer too slow.
The registry is a main part of your computer's Operating System. With time, as you use Windows and install and uninstall programs, your registry will get congested and full of errors. So your computer could slow down. So, if you can clean it up this problem can be solved.Sometimes you can speed computer up by 300%. To clean up registry,You can download a software called regsitry cleaner---Clean registry, remnant, corrupt files and temp files,history,cookies,etc.. This site:
http://www.computer-speed.info
lists top 5 registry cleaner, you can download and scan for free.
Good luck!
