What computer make should i choose from Dell and HP?

I really need a desktop computer as my older computer died. For a computer under $600, what should i choose- HP or Dell?
I need a computer with good technical support and warranty behind it.I need it for images and medium duty work.

Thanks

I have an HP and the tech support stinks. When I had trouble with my computer a couple of months ago , I called asking for help. They said I would have to completely clean my system out and start fresh. When I asked them to send me a copy of the Windows addition I have on my computer they said they wouldn't. They told me to send my computer to them and they would fix it. It was going to cost over $400 plus shipping and handling. It was also going to cost me if I stayed on the phone for repair help. I could almost buy a new computer for that. Well, I have learned my lesson and will never buy an HP again.
Hp. is the only choice here.
screw them both and build your own... its cheaper in the long run. that and you can use some parts you already have to keep costs down
I've never had an HP but I Love my Dell Computer. I have a desktop and A Labtop
Dell man all the way. i only use dell becuse if it breaks they help and they have exelent custmoer service plus you get to make your own computer with dell so you wont get charged extra for stuff you dont need
If price is not a problem, go for the HP! If you remember, with Dell, they had so many problems, with their batteries, display etc etc.. not forgetting that they dont have a dealer network to support you if you are out of their supporting network geographically.!
I have a DELL laptop. I have the Inspirion B130. I like it, it works good. I've had it since Christmas last year.
Check both to see which will give you the better bang for your buck.
Both are good brands (nowadays, Dell used to be somewhat quirky in the past), so you'll have a good computer no matter which brand you'll choose.
dell is having a back to school sale on their inspiron line so id say a dell if your getting one right now. 400 dollars in savings. it costs 600 dollars omes with monitor and eveything.
Form a purely technical maintanance point of view, i would go dell, because they are easier to work with if something goes wrong. hp boxes tend to be more time consuming to take apart and put back together.

HP or Dell. Coke or Pepsi? i dunno. both much the same.
build your own. my friend built one worth 1500 bucks but because he bought his own parts and assambled it, it came out to around 700.

if you must buy one get a HP.

get a dell and it will go to hell.
I have been building my desktops for the past years and I'm quite happy with them. Now, if I was to buy from ANY major manufacturer it would be HP hands down. They are the leader in sales, support and quality products. Dell has been having alot of legal issues lately, including fraud and misleading their customers.
HP by far is much better than Dell for performance and abilityof repair with low cost. Definitely get a warranty though. Dell customer support takes forever and sucks if you can even get them to respond. HP is a little better. They at least respond.
HP or compaq all the way, better hardware, and more better customer support

AND i've heard the hardware drives on dells tend to be really bad.
