i haven't used the cpu for a week. for some reason i loss my RAM memory and when the cpu loads it struggles to open startup programs. i then attempted to use safe mode, but now the cpu will reboot then come up with an error message and says to try safe mode, safe mode networking, safe mode command prompt, last known working setup, or start regular. no matter what you try it will keep coming back to that screen.

bad memory module. if you have 2 sticks try 1 stick at a time
Sounds like a ram module failure.
What are you seeing on the boot screen, where the POST is run? Is it showing only 64 MB? If so then you have a ram failure.
If you are running XP or Vista, the operating system is probably unable to load with that amount of ram.
I would buy a new compatable ram module [at least 256 MB], which is very cheap now and pull the old ram and plug in the new. Better would be to put in 512 MB to give better performance.
Your computer should be able to boot normally then.
