Whats better as far as RAM goes ?Core 2 duo or Quad core ? or are they the same ?
Answers:
Core 2 Duo and Quad Core are types of CPU (Central Processing Unit) processors. They are not a type of RAM (Random Access Memory).
A Core 2 Duo Processor contains two individual CPU processors combined into a single chip. So, this makes your system a 2 processor system.
A Quad Core Processor contains 4 CPU processors combined into one chip. This makes your system a 4 processor system.
A 4 processor system can be faster than a 2 processor system as long as the speeds of both processors are equivalent. So, if you're comparing two systems with the same GHz processing speed, and one is quad core and one is duo (dual) core, then it's better to go with the quad core as the quad core has more processing power.
Keep in mind that more processors doesn't always mean 'faster'. Having more CPUs means that there's more processors available to process data. So, more data can be processed concurrently. On a quad core, this system allows 3 times as much data to be processed when compared to a single processor system. So, yes, it does get done with the data processing faster, but it still took the same amount of time as a single processor. The data was broken up into 4 pieces and processed simultaneously.
However, keep in mind that all applications have to be written to support a multiprocessor system in order to reap the most benefits. For example, you really don't get much more of a benefit from a dual core as you do a quad core if all you do is word process and listen to iTunes. If you like high end 3D gaming, on the other hand, then having 4 processors will perform much better than 2 processors. Multiple processors make a big difference when you're crunching numbers like most current video games do.
As far as the RAM you'll need for the system, you'll need to view the motherboard to determine the type of RAM necessary and the total amount of RAM you can place onto the motherboard. It really doesn't make sense to buy a motherboard for a quad core processor and have 2 RAM slots. Having more RAM slots allows more RAM onto the system. More RAM keeps the performance of the system optimal. When you have small numbers of RAM slots, then you'll end up being able to put far less total RAM onto the system. This can reduce your overall system performance when high amounts of RAM are needed.
Core 2 duo gives you 2 times the speed. For example, core 2 duo at 1.86 Ghz is in reality 3.92 Ghz.
Quad core gives you 4 times the speed.
I think the design is more efficient as it effectively allocates the RAM to suit the various applications. You can do more things at the same time.
quad core is the most ideal.
the diffrent between two are their chips. you can say core 2 duo has 2 chips in it and quad core has 4 chips it. if you use dual core rams it will give you great reults. recommandations are 2 gb ddr2 800.
Actually, the core 2 duo and the quad core are processors,
not RAM.
RAM stands for random access memory. This is your system memory.
To answer which is better a core 2 duo or a quad core,
the quad core will be the faster of the two with more multi-tasking capabilities, but unless you are running high end applications or extremely intensive games, the quad core may be a bit overkill.
Core 2 duo and quad core are processors, not RAM (Random Access Memory). RAM is the memory used while computer is actually running, as opposed to hard drive space (memory) which is storage of files, programs, OS, etc.
As far as CPU's go (central processing unit), quad core would supposedly be better as it has four processors. This allows more data to travel at the same time. An analogy would be a 2 lane highway vs a 4 lane highway, both with the same speed limit. More traffic can traverse without jams on the 4 lane highway.
When comparing though you should keep in mind your programs and/or operating system have to support the quad core to get the full benefit. Otherwise, you will get a performance increase if multi-tasking (multiple windows/programs open at same time), but not much if just running one program.
Go with the Q6600 quad. Make sure you get the new one with the D0 stepping. It's the SLACR not the SL9UM:
Heres a review of it:

The quads don't overclock as high as the core 2 duos but when it comes to video editing the quads the king.
As the multithread games come out near the end of the year the quad will ready start to show its stuff!
