You won't lose your hard drive files unless you mess up. So...back up any hard drive files you want to save. (That's just general advice any time you do anything to your computer. Really...general advice for even having a computer. But it's nothing specific to changing the motherboard).

Make sure everything is compatible. I would find a good computer store to buy it in and ask for help, giving the specifics of what you have. You don't want to have to go in, buy a motherboard, realize your power supply doesn't work in it, then after replacing the power supply you realize your ram is not compatible.the list can go on. :)

You will have to back up your hard drive. As for memory and so forth it depends on what you get and what you want to do. Usually you can get a motherboard and processor combo pretty cheap but you need to match up the ram, power supply, type of hard drive, and so on. Windows wont recoginize the new motherboard so you will have to refomatt it in the end. Below is the link to a good computer online etailer. Great customer service too.
Hard drives and motherboard are two seperate things. Changing your motherboard shouldn't delete any files, but you have to make sure that the hard drive will fit into the slots. I've never had a problem with this, so you should be fine.

If you want to have a PC that will perform, I would suggest a pci motherboard. The graphics cards are generaly cheaper, and are built for graphic performance, as opposed to agp.
All of the data on your hard drive is safe, have no fear. As for which motherboard is right for you...that depends. Go talk with someone at your local mom-n-pop computer shop. They usually don't work on commision and don't need to push the most expensive items at you. They will talk to you about what you are using the computer for before they recommend a motherboard. They will also have a pretty good idea which ones tend to break.
no buddy!!

Replacing ur motherboard wont delete ur memory files...coz...alll ur files are stored in the HARD disk...so even if u change ur mother board...nothing will happen to ur files...

try intel core2duo...coz its the latest...

and core 2 duo with a graphic card like NVIDIA 8800...wil be just rocking!
