all the answers up to know are valid solutions but it could be any of these
so my advice is try these in this order, first run a anti-virus and anti-spyware scan to cancel out any malware infection, this should allways be your first port of call when problems of this nature start happening on your p.c
then open you case and first give it a good spring clean, starting with your c.p.u fan, this gets clogged up with the most dirt and in some cases can stop the p.c from booting up correctly,i recently fixed a p.c with a similar problem to yours,it would boot up for 2 minutes and then say it had to shut down to avoid any further damage, the reason for this was a blocked cpu fan that the fans would not spin,if the p.c would continue to boot the cpu would probally fry so this is the reason for some shutdowns
also clean the rear fans and any other fans in your p.c including the graphics card fan especially
check all the cables ,wires and leadsmmake sure they are all fitted properly and all power leads are correctly fitted
have you recently added some new hardware?,if so your power supply may be struggling, especially if its a graphic card,in this case upgrade your p.s.u to a 500watt + model
to clean your p.c use a "air duster" which is basically compressed air in a can,its easy to use and dosent contain any solvents...100% safe to use
after you have checked all this, right click my computer>advanced>start up and recovery>then uncheck the box that says "automatically restart" and press ok,this will stop any shutdowns, however you still need to find the reason why the p.c is shutting down in the first place
it sould be a simple fault like a incompatible memory module so check the memory, again has this happened since you have upgraded your memory, its a case of checking everything until you locate the problem, its a long drawn out process but its the only way you will find the problem
any problems let me know
good luck mate!
sounds to me to be a memory issue, when you get the poup. for the turning off upon booting up sounds like a missing file,or hard drive issue. have you tried safebooting to see if it still happens? i would start there, safebooting and trying to trouble shoot it.
Could be an overheating problem.
Check your fans.

i think u are having a virus in computer which is not allowing u to stay connected to the computer. The second option to try is to remove the RAM and attach it once again this might solve the problem that u are facing
heya my comp done this before

if this dosnt work, go to a computer shop and ask a member of staff or ring a computer hardware shop up
u might have a virus in yr hard drive. try a full system recovery &, if that doesn't work, get professional help.
I love all these people who dont know anything about computers giving advice... Jeez.
Anyway, try to check you event viewer and see if it gives any details about what may be causing the problem. Your memory isnt bad and it isnt a virus. Generally speaking, when a computer intermittently turns itself off its the powersupply. Bad memory will usually give some type of error in Windows , prevent bootup, or crash out - it wont shut itself down. Viruses, if you were to have a specific one, would have a regular pattern of shutting down your PC.
Ill bet you $10 its your PS.

When I first read this, I thought it's the Power Supply.
BUT, you say you've had messages pop-up stating the computer needs to shutdown. That's not a power-supply problem. Those result in the computer shutting down without warning.
Try rolling back to a restore point about a week ago, and see if that solves the problem.
Scan your hard-drives with your anti-virus (if you don't have any, get it.)
Finally, look inside your computer and check the fan mounted on the cpu is spinning. All the problems you've described can be caused by over-heating. Also check for dust when it's switched off.

depends what O/s your running?
XP on a pc and you have broadband, because it sounds like all the classic symptoms of one the big b/b viri from a few yrs back.
try booting up with your modem off and do stuff with the modem off to see if the error occurs.
(try writing the actual error down).
lsass used to do this, you might need a friend with a pc and a memory stick to fix it. trying to grab the lsass fix whilst online you normally never have the time as the pc shuts itself down within 60 seconds of bootup.
