Should my mac be turned off or just on sleep mode at night or when not in use?

Answers:
There's really very little difference. I have a mac server that's been up for ~100 days with no issue, and I've seen some that have been on for years without any problem.

Generally, I only bother shutting down when there's a problem. Sleep mode works fine.

One thing, though, is to make sure that you have "put hard drive to sleep when possible" checked in your power settings, as it'll significantly increase the life of your hard drive.
Well, logically, I turn my iMac off at night, but put it to sleep during the day, when I am away.
I just never shut my iMac down, it put itself to sleep when im away, and thats it, I see it this way every time you mac Hard drive needs to boot you its loosing life.
Sleep mode at night! It runs scripts at night while you're sleeping to keep the operating system running nice and clean!
But, not a big deal either way.
