Help getting more RAM?

I need more RAM for my computer, i only have 256 MB. I want to increase it to 512. I was wondering if there was a way to get more RAM without open the computer, like a USB card or something. if not then how do i find out what kind to get. im low on money so i cant take it to a computer shop to do it. also, what is the best cheap brand.
My computer is a Dell Dimension 2400.
Thanks for the help.

You can't get ram from a usb and you have to open to install
you need ddr 266, 333, or 400 mhz DDR
got from here
http://accessories.dell.com/sna/category...
so now just go to your local store and get 1 256 mb stick of those
$39.00 on Dell
but ya go to crucial.com and let it scan your system. It tells you how many sticks you have installed and what type are needed
so if you have 2x 128 mb sticks you may need to buy 2 256mb sticks or maybe just replace 1 with a 512 stick or if you only have 1 256mb stick then you just need 1 more 256 mb stick
I have a Dell 4600 and installed Kingston ram
The maximum you can have is 2 1 gb sticks (from dell's site)
no you need to open the computer and its not so hard to do it go to this site www.crucial.com i ordered 2gb sticks (max for my pc) for less than a hundred dollars, while gateway(my manufacter)said each stick will cost 95$,great deal huh?
you need a pc2700 333Mhz DDR SD RAM...here i have this website where you will be able to get it for cheap get a 512 MB chip and put it in and it will get you a total of 768 MB of RAM

here is the link
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.as...

this will work with your desktop and for any further question email me...

and this will be the best financially to...and I would not recommend you putting in more RAM than 1GB since that is the maximum for dell dimension 2400...so just buy that and have fun... dont worry ...get it... and pop it in and turn on your computer as simple as that...peace out...
Unfortunately you can't have extra RAM through the usb port unless if you are using windows vista which you are not.

If you want to do it by yourself, here is what you need to know about the type of RAM you need to buy:

266mhz/333mhz DDR

If you are confused, just ask the saleman.
This site will scan your computer and tell you what kind of ram you need and how much it costs.
