What are the advantages of having 1024MB of memory rather than 512MB?

think of it this way, imagine that you have a basket that can hold 512 books (yes this is pretend) and you need to move 1024 books from your room to your mom's room, it would take you TWO TRIPS to get all the books moved over.
now imagine that your basket can hold 1025 books, you can get everything moved over in ONE TRIP.
what I am trying to say is this, for ANYTHING to run on your computer it MUST BE IN MEMORY, if there is not enough free memory to run your application then the system has to take something out of memory to make room for your program to run (now windows is a multi tasking OS) so what was removed (and written to the hard drive aka virtual memory) may be needed again, so now the OS has to remove something else form memory and reload whats needed from disk, as you can see this can be very time consuming (taking stuff in and out of memory).
now if you had more memory (i.e. a bigger basket) you would not need to make multiple trips (i.e. you can put more stuff in your basket before it gets full) then (because the system, now is not wasting time taking tuff into and out of memory) your computer and applications run faster
in a nutshell more memory means you can run more applications without having to swap out memory space) which will improve performance

generally... any time your OS (and the applications, games, etc you use on the OS) has more physical memory to use, your system will be faster..

More ram the faster your computer will be in the terms of response to tasks you ask the computer to do.
If you have say five programs open at the same time with 512 Meg of ram I would say at least two of them will be swapped out to the hard drive at any given time, thus the response time when you click on the program will be slow.
If you upgrade your memory then all the progams will respond instantly when you click on them.

1.more memory will make applications open and close much quicker,theres nothing worse than waiting for a gmae/application to fully finish so you can start a new one

3.game will perform better,remember that most of the latest games are using 1024mb as the recomended ram(although the minimum requirement is 512mb)
