Go to CompUSA and buy an optical mouse for $20. They are way better.

Might I suggest you invest 10-20 bucks on an Optical mouse?
Once you try one, you will NEVER go back to rollerball mice.
Aww why do you have one of those? Optical ones are much more efficient.
You could rub a moist cloth all over the ball to get the stuff off and let it dry
Q-tip with rubbing alcohol it works great.
1. take the ball out.
2. get a q-tip and dab it with water.
3. clean the inside of your mouse mainly the edges of where the ball is placed.
4. put the ball back in.
or..
5. invest in getting an optical mouse.
Canned Air or a Q-tip works pretty well. I didnt know anyone still used roller-ball mice anymore...j/k. Hope that helps
take the door off , drop the ball out and swab the inside with a q-tip dipped in Rubbing alcohol.
Use string to clean it or ask your cat to lick it.
I use a Q-tip with a little bit of rubbing alcohol on it. It works great. If you do it a couple of times at first, then once a week. I use mine mostly for Autocad and art programs, so it helps when the roller ball glides smoothly.

Remove the ball from the mouse (turn the mouse over...you'll see the opening has arrows on it pointing counter-clockwise...just turn counter clockwise, and it'll pop out).
Then, wait till your coworker goes to the bathroom, and wipe the ball off on his seat.
Or, if you want to be mature, I guess you could just wipe it down with a Windex-soaked paper towel.
But it's Friday, and I think it's probably high time for some office highjinks.
Carefully use tweezers to remove the chucks of rolled up lint, then clean the rollers with rubbing alcohol using a clean cotton swab (Q-Tip). If possible blow out using dry air, or carefully blow out using a soda straw to direct your puff of air. Works for me all the time.

this is far the easiest and best way i can think of. open up the ball mouse. take out the ball. you can rinse it off and dry it off. there should be 3 rollers in there. you can use your fingers going sideways motion(side to side) and it will clean out your rollers. repeat each steps until you completed all 3 rollers.
A de-formed paperclip will do the job just fine!
(Just get one of those 'larger' types, they're stronger, so better!)
Use alcohol on a cotton swab to clean the 3 rollers. You may need a pair of tweezers to remove remainig particles of dust, hair, etc.
don't ur best bet is to now just go out n buy a new one.. 5 bucks for a optical mouse at most stores. it will save you alot of trouble of constantly cleaning the ball in the mouse and having the ball seize up on you. it made my life alot easier on the pc.
Use rubbing alcohol and some q-tips in the mouse shell and on the ball as well, this work for me.
Best way to clean a roller mouse.
1) Pull the ball out and rinse in warm water with soap.
Dry it off completely.
2) Get either an old toothbrush or small screwdriver and clean off that gunk that is black and looks like glue on the side brackets inside the mouse. That is actually crap that is picked up from rolling it around.
