Added 4GB RAM to 2GB originally, System says only 3.25 GB RAM. How is this possible?

I have a Dell Inspiron 530s with 2GB RAM. I added the following: pqi TURBO 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory. My Motherboard has 4 slots. The original ram took up two of the four. I added the other two. Shouldnt it be 6GB total now?

Answers:
Technical specifications for Memory on the Dell Inspiron 530s is Up to 4GB Ram. It is quite likely your motherboard is unable to recognize the amount of ram installed. The "fine print" also states: "The total amount of usable memory available will be less than 4GB, depending on actual system configuration."
Sounds to me like one of the 2 gb stick is not being recognized . Could be one of the sticks is bad but to rule that out try this:
Take the new ram out leaving the original 2gb stick in place and boot the system. If it boots sucessfully then it sees the ram. shut down and replace one of the newer sticks, keeping the original stick in place. Boot up again. If it boots again check to see what it says as far as the amount of ram. Shut down again if it is reading correctly and add the other stick and boot again. You may just have to keep taking out and putting in to see if its just the ram itself
