Is frequent defragmentation bad for your hard disk?

Answers:
Its good for your hard drive. It organizes your files. Not everything is kept together when it comes to certain files. Certain parts are stored in different places and organizing this makes your hard drive work less vs not defragging it and it working more. Hard drives have moving parts and as with anything that has moving parts it will wear out quicker the harder its worked.
I hope it isnt because I defrag my drive on a regular basis
No. Go ahead.

Computer makers advise frequent defrags - like after you install major software.

By the way, they also advise not using more than 85% or 90% of the space on your hard drives.
It's good for your hard drive because it puts files in order and fills in empty spaces on your hard drive.
No. Should do it monthly, especially if you install and remove programs frequently.
No quite the opposite in fact. Frequent defragmentation keeps your hard drive in good order. Program access & such will remain fast, unlike if you did a lot on your PC and never defragged it.
Should be OK, I defrag mine about once a month. WIndows XP does require at least 15% free space to defrag though.
It can mess up your HDD (harddrive) if you keep arranging files when system values are set to be read at certain folders. so be defrag and moving them, its like crashing your computer without the virus.
