Maybe your program dislikes the USB keyboard.
You can get a USB to PS/2 for almost nothing a Wal Mart, Radio Shack ETC.
All you have to do is start you computer with the keyboard plugged into the PS/2 port and Vista will see it. Then try your program.
If that doesn't work I'd contact the software vendor.
I know you should never unplug something from a USB port without going through the "disconnect this from my PC" process. It can damage the port.
You need a new keyboard or a new com.
Most likely to be the keyboard's problem. Go get a PS/2 Keyboard instead of the USB.
You should take it to geek Squad at best buy they help with computers If it is a laptop take it to bestbuy,or a home computer call geek squad.
do you still have the receipt on that thing (the workstation, not the keyboard)?
try to return it.
I know that Vista is newest OS for PC, but that doesn't mean you have to be Gate's lab rat.
You should not have to have any drivers installed just for a usb keyboard.
Do a restart - at the black screen tap the F8 key - you will come t black screen with various options - use your arrow keys to move up and down - highlight 'last known good configuration' press enter. Your computer will reboot - see if your usb ports are back.
