Is there a way to erase information on a CD-R, but still use the disk later?
Answers:
CD-r is one time shot, there is no way to reuse it
if you want to reuse then you need to use a CD-rw , which is the re- writable version of cd-r
good luck
no, not on a cd-r.
There is no way...
No, a CD-R is a one-time only thing. It's like writing with pen on a paper. However, you can erase a CD-RW. So you can either buy another CD-R (it's like 5 cents now) and burn what you want over again, or get a CD-RW and not worry the next time.
No, you can only erase information on a CD-RW (CD Rewriteable) and then reuse it.
However, on a CD-R you can leave the disc open and add multiple sessions until the disc is full. This means you could copy some data, close the session, then come back later and copy more making a new session. As long as there's space left, that's not a problem...
Here is what you do.
Take a box, cut a slit at to top so your cd will fit. Then take a whole bunch of new cd's and place them under the box.
Scratch the old disc and toss into the slit of the box.
Pick up box and throw out window. Go back to the place where box was and tuh-dah! New re-useable cd-roms!
~~~~~Just kidding.
CR-RW's can be erased and rewritten.
CD-R's can re erase and rewritten ONLY if you do not end the session on the disc with your burning program. Though not recommended as it does not always work and is usually not compatible with all cd rom readers.
no. CR-recordable is different from CD-ReWriteable discs, and some drives only support one or both. CD-R is one time only. but if you need to erase valuable information from a cdr, use the microwave! its always a good time.
One use only ... they're fairly cheap these days if you keep an eye out for sales ... Circuit City sometimes has el-cheapo discs for $9-$10.
