My computer has 40 GB but?

My hard disk is 40 GB but the c drive shows only 4 GB and D drive has 1.6 GB only . Why is it so?

Answers:
Ok, let me understand what you have said:
40GB drive - OK
4GB C drive - Is 4gb the total size of the drive or the Unused space on the drive.
1.6GB D drive - Again the same question applies
If Total Size of the drives is 5.6GB the drive has a lot of unformatted space or was setup incorrectly. Format and reset it up.
If the Total Size of the two drives is closer to 40 GB you need a larger drive or to get rid of some stuff on the drive.

Good Luck
You could have used a lot of the space already.
so you can share memory betweenn drives
When you formatted the drive did you perhaps use the FAT file system instead of the NTFS. That is one reason why it is like that. Not saying it is but it really sounds like it.
youve probs used up the memory. try clearing old data.
Whoever installed your hard drive did it wrong, evidently. If I were you and you don't have a 'professional computer expert' on hand, then take your computer to a 'repair place' and tell them your 'problem' ... they should be able to 'fix it' for a small charge, so you'll have 'full access' to your 40gb hard drive.
The 1.6 GB D: drive will be your recovery partition however that seems a bit on the large side. As for the C: drive I think that you have problems that may be fixed by formatting the C: and installing windows again. This often occurs when the C: is not formatted correctly
