Why are there no files in my recycle bin?

I am running windows xp Pro. I have deleted files but they don't show up in the recylce bin. I have done all the checking of boxes etc.
Also the history on my web browser does not hold the sites I visit.

Answers:
1>right click "recycle bin"
2>untick the option "don't move files to recycle bin"
Or/and
3> at "max size or recycle bin" move slider to higher value. In window xp, if files are very big for recycle bin (like 1gb movie files), it is directly deleted instead of puting in recycle bin.

for internet explorer
1> open internet explorer, go to "Tool", go to "internet option"
2> in history, "days to keep history" increase the no of days.
Sometimes if a file is really large, it won't appear in the recycle bin. If you right-click the recycle bin and go to Properties, make sure "Do not move files to the Recycle Bin" is UN-checked.

To enable history in IE: go to Tools...Internet Options. Click on Browsing History "Settings" and change the "Days to keep pages in History" to whatever value you want.

In Firefox: go to Tools...Options. In the Privacy tab, make sure the history settings are enabled.
Just off the top of one's head right click on the recycle and go for Properties:

if there is a tick mark in "do not move files to the recycle bin..." take it out

hope this is of use
