Any way to increase the performance of my system to better play H264 files?

I have coreAVC and I am using Media Players Classic, but when trying to play a 1280x720 H264 file, the CPU usage remains around 100 percent, which when it remains at 100 percent, it gets the audio off sync with video. I have nothing else running at the time, so that would not work (including things that would load at startup and run in the back round). I have a 1.7 GHz processor, 1 GB of ram, and a video card with 64MB of memory. Is there anyway I can improve my performance so that it remains a bit under 100 percent and not have any problems. Thank you.

For your info H.264 is a Video Codec, which uses higher compression rates. H.264 contains a number of new features that allow it to compress video much more effectively than older standards and to provide more flexibility for application to a wide variety of network environments

U need high end hardware for playback as processing power is needed for smoother playback...

Upon the release of Mac OS X tiger, H.264 was introduced. If you are on a mac with OS X 10.4 or higher, it's probably your graphics card not being up to speed with the format. If you have a windows machine, remember that h.264 is relatively new and will not work on most computers.
