Does the amount of available hard drive space effect whether or not Microsoft Word will work?

I have a 60 GB drive but only 2 GB of free space.

Word suddenly stopped working (won't even launch all the way; becomes unresponsive) yesterday and a friend said he thought it was because of the lack of free space on the hard drive.

I've never had a problem with Word until now.

Should I try and free up space and see if Word starts working again? How much free space should I have?

Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions.

I wouldn't think that Word would just stop working because of lack of hard drive space. It could be a problem with the aplication itself; or, you might want to run a virus scan to see if there's any bugs in the system or you might want to run a defrag. Hope I helped!
Which versio of word r u using, if it is word 2003 400MB of free space is sufficient.
You might want to look into another drive. Word uses lots of space for temp file when editing/writing files. Not to mention the program itself requires some space. 2 Gb free...not good...You will need to get rid of some media files or something on there.
You could get a new drive for under $100 U.S. and just download something like acronis true image trial...then use it to image your drive to the new one... This would be the best plan.
While Word will have trouble starting with low disk space, 2GB free hardly qualifies as low disk space. You have something else going on. Does Word give an error when attempting to start it?
2GB free space is more than enough.please check your computer for viruses or any other problem.

Download free AVG antivirus (search google) and scan your PC.

Also scan your PC with Advanced Windows Care, it is also free..

I hope it will solve your problem. please don't forget to vote... if it make you happy
