Hard drive capacity? Processor speed? RAM? How do I know how much I need?

I'm looking to purchase a laptop. Probably off of ebay. I'd like to know how much of each of these I'm really going to need. I'd just be using the computer to connect online, save picture files from my camera and save no more than 800 music files (itunes). What size processor, hard drive and RAM space will I actually need?

Answers:
Personal experience has taught me that the amount of memory needed is no less that 1GB.

Processor speed? Get one as fast as you can find. If dual-processor is available to you, then I'd go with that. It won't make your computer faster doing 1 thing, but when you do multiple things at once (virus scan, downloading email, calculating spreadsheets, etc) then the load will be split between to 2 processors, giving you more thruput and the semblance of a faster processor...more things can happen at once.

Since you're going to be saving pictures and music files, go with the largest hard drive you can find. Regardless of the size of the hard drive, we always find a way to fill it up :)

Plan for the future. Laptops aren't cheap, so get one that will meet your needs today and into the future.

Hope it helped!
