Sony XL301 hard drives... how to recognise them without vista, controller issue?

On my sony vaio the hard drive are only recognised by vista and not by any other operating system. Therefore I can't install linux or whatever else!!
It must be a problem with the SATA controller driver (no raid enabled)

any idea? know any place I can find support (SONY won't give me any since it's not a vista related issue...)

Answers:
yes .. when u install an operating system u need the chipset drivers and sata drivers specific to that operating system ... if u were loading xp for instance u would load the sata driver from the motherboard or laptop manufacturer first at the F6 prompt ... then continue with the operating system install ... the problem with alot of vendors now is they are not offering drivers for anything but vista but yeah ... check ur vendors support site for an sata driver for watever operating system u are wanting to install ... load it at F6 ...
