My guess is that if your onboard video is too old to be have Vista drivers you probably should not upgrade your computer to Vista whether or not you get a Vista (Direct X10) video card.
If you are compelled to spend money to decrease your computers performance:
Run both Vista Upgrade Advisors below.

Make sure Vista drivers are available for your printer, scanner, webcam, video card, sound card , etc.
Dont trust any tools from MS. Use drivehq instead. BTW G series are low spec vga card. To run vista u'll need more powerful one
Im guessing this is an intergrated graphic card (which is build in your motherboard). I would recommend to upgrade your motherboard and have either an nVIDIA or ATI card. Vista can run any graphics card but you will not get the best out it. That's why people hate it.
I would not do the upgrade unless the chipset is supported. It probably would work under the XP driver, but not satisfactorily in Vista. It is rated as a 2/3D which is one of the requirements for a Vista unit. Have you checked the computer makers site for information? Mose companies are updating fairy quickly so you may have to simply wait until the company gets it done. If you are currently runnign XP it still is slightly better than Vista due to compatibility issues.
