Are dualcore CPUs useful for multitasking with Word, playing audio/video,&web or is it realy for intensive use?
BTW I am sure that it would help , but I just figured that 2GHz+ CPUs are fast enough for that light sort of multitasking that it wouldn't have such a notable advantage.
Thanks

Dual core CPUs can only be utilized effeciently in programs that are intended to utilize them. Most programs will only utilize one of the 2 cores effeciently which is why clockspeed frequencies are just as important today as dual core. Though in the future more programs will become dual core compatable. XP can utilize 2 cores but Vista utilizes them more effeciently thus making your computer in general faster. Multitasking is more based on RAM than it is processing power the more RAM you have the more programs you can use at one time, thats not to say a CPU doesnt have anything to do with it though.
(PS. It is still spelled Dual Core, Core Duo is Intels' specific brand of Dual Core processors)
first of all its spelled DUOcore just to let you know
and they're for anything you want , they weren't designed for one thing in speicfic they're just two so the processing is done by two cpus and the time is reduced , it can be for anything you like , if you multi task with a single cpu its fine but it might be slow of couse and the duocore is faster so its good for anything
I think so,but make so U R able to get the right software for the operating system as with it,U'll be able to take advantage of it better. Also see if your OP system is designed to handle it as well.
I would buy the dual core processor no matter what. Get a Core 2 Duo. They are the best. Don't buy an AMD. They suck.
