Problem with defrag?

\WINDOWS\system32\WIN.TMP (( can not be defragmented))

Answers:
The win.tmp is a sign of a trojan infection (See link to geekstogoforum below).

I suggest you go ahead and sign up with the Geeks to Go forum (it should be free) and post your question there. They should be able to help. Just make sure that:

- Before you post, follow any "preliminary" cleaning steps they recommend.
- When you post, describe the problem thoroughly.
- When you have a helper working with you, follow their instructions to the letter.

All that will help them to help you as quickly as possible. Good luck!
u have no need to defrag a hard drive if it is using ntfs file system. it wont help. dont bother with it unless your hard drive is fat or fat32. besides that, everything is normal in yur situation, windows cannot defrag some of its files, dont worry about it.
It is safe to delete any .TEMP or .TMP files.

Then do a DEFRAG, it should be OK now, if not, put back the WIN.TMP file using Recycle Bin, (Replace).
;-)
Did you, by any chance, compress your files or hard-drive? If so, that could be a cause as to why it is not letting you defrag completely.
Also consider this: must have at least 15% free space for defrag to completely and adequately defragment it. Defrag uses this space as a sorting area for file fragments. If a volume has less than 15% free space, defrag will only partially defragment it. To increase the free space on a volume, delete unneeded files or move them to another disk
Another tip: You cannot defragment volumes that the file system has marked as dirty, which indicates possible corruption. You must run chkdsk on a dirty volume before you can defragment it. You can determine if a volume is dirty by using the fsutil dirty query command.
hope this helps ya. good luck
