Whenever i put on my pc it says detcting IDE drives it either freezes at that place but whenever i hit the pc?

it detects the ide drives is this normal

Answers:
shut the power off and pull the side cover off.breifly touch the metal case to get rid of static electricity and unplug then plug back in all IDE devices.most likely just your hard drive. good luck
Just change the IDE cable, it will definitely work.
Otherwise call the hardware guy ASAP
Is hitting your PC normal? Nope, gonna shop you to the SPCPC for cruelty to PCs.

What it probably indicates is the lead from the mobo to the hard disk has got poor connection or no conenction... or possibly the power lead is similarly affected.

Try the following:

Unplug and replug both ends of the wide grey ribbon cable from the mother board to the hard disk. Make sure you *do* put it back the same as it came out.

Unplug the power cable from the hard disk - the (probably) white connector with 4 wires (red, yellow, 2x black) and replace it with another one that should be unused in the case.

If that doesn't solve the problem the next thing to do is replace the grey ribbon cable. Go to a PC shop to buy a replacement IDE disk cable. If you replace it make sure the coloured edge is arranged the same way round.

And stop beating your PC up... it *will* damage things because of the impact shock.
Seems to be a problem with loose connections, check the wiring again. From http://fixit.in
ide drive detecting is normal. computers do the task during bootup process..it only happens that we dont (sometimes) notice detection when bootup process is fast and only the summary shows.

but the problem is, when you see it detecting slow...it means there's a losing contact? close power..reinsert ide cable to hdd and to the slot, too. be sure to make it "cable-select". check also jumper setting, set to master(?).

then at bootup, press delete before anything comes to screen...press it till the CMOS setting appear. just take a look if your hdd is detected...then close it to restart..

next step...

1. right click MyComputer then Explore.
2. right click Drive C then properties, select TOOLS TAB
3. in Error-checking click Check Now..then check Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.
4. press start. voila! it is now recovering whatever bad sectors has stored in your hdd.

wish your worry gone.
