i have gotten a asus striker extreme complete with 2gb ram and quad core q6600 with 700w psu overclocked to 3.2ghz. unfortunately i cant afford a graphics card so i have to stick with my old radeon 9200 se. will this card work in the motherboard. i cant upgrade graphics till september. will geforce 8800 and radeon 2900 work in the mobo. i might get the radeon 2900 but will it work?
Answers:
Most likely, that 9200SE is an AGP card, meaning it will only fit in an AGP slot on the motherboard. AGP is a dying format, since it is slower than PCI-Express, which is the latest format. Your ASUS board does not have an AGP slot, only a PCI-E, so you will NOT be able to run that graphics card. Also, the board does not have onboard video, so you will need some cheap graphics card first to get the system running.
The 8800GTS is very slightly worse than a 2900XT, but much cheaper. Since the Striker Extreme is an SLI-capable board, you will eventually be able to buy TWO 8800s and run them in your computer. Go with the 8800.
