Hard Drive help out?

I'm trying to free up my strong drive because my Ipod battery died and I want to rear up my music when I send it to apple for a battery-operated replacement. The HD compacity is 24 GB but there's only 11 GB free. There isn't any Music or movies on near. There aren't that many documents so I can't numeral out what's taking 13 GB. I need at lowest possible 17 GB free to fit my Ipod on my HD. I use windows so can you communicate me where on my computer I should look to free up space.

Answer:
Excuse me for dictum, but I don't think you should be looking to create more space on your system drive as much as you should be shopping for an inexpensive, all the same reliable, external hard drive that you can connect to your Windows computer via USB.
Creating space on your system drive can be touchy.
Especially if you are wanting 6 Gigs of space.

My warning: Put it on an external drive. They don't cost much these days.
I guess the space is consumed by the operating systems and the programs you enjoy installed through time.

However, you can use the search utility and specify to look files larger than 1mb. That passageway you can look if there anything you should and can delete.

I suggest you go and get an external HD and backup your iPod to that device. If you computer get's infected you will loose all those precious songs or video plus the time to download them again.

Good luck mate!
Windows takes resembling 4 gb, or sometimes more. You probably have pre-installed bloatware taking up tons of space. You must enjoy an OLD computer because there are 1 TB complicated drives out now. You can buy 500 GB drives road cheap now.

I judge it's time to upgrade your computer.
Windows is using up some space already.

Perhaps your HD is partitioned (divided into more than one drive)?

You could try deleting any programs that you hold installation CD's for.

If not of that is adequate or correct try this. Back up the songs on a DVD.

Best of luck.
the programs take up alot of that space
microsoft programs resembling word, excel, prower point, etc..
go to my computer and select the program files and delete stuuf threr
Delete everything within the Windows/Temp directory. Empty the recycle bin.

Search for all files next to a size greater than 1000kb. You might have some roomy files taking up a lot of space.

When my iPod locked up (screen faded) I gone it on for a day or two till it be completely dead. Then I be able to charge it adjectives the way up and it have worked great since. I know there are rather a few with your problem.
you should be in motion to the control panel and check "add/remove programs" that will tell you if you enjoy any extraneous programs that you no longer use and could just uninstall them. this may free up satisfactory space. if not, you could try to compress files using window.
Right click on the drive, go to properties, click dis verbs up, once it has calculated the files to be removed, move about to advanced tab, click delete all but later restore point, and then press enter.
It will nick a few minutes, but you will see a couple of GB coming back.

Also remove unwanted programs.

AND what I do is, do a turn upside down for say *.doc files. I attain to see all doc files, next I sort them by name, so very soon I can see duplicate files (same name, size). Delete the one you do not want. Do matching for files like .mp3, .wmw, .3gp, .jpg, .gif etc etc.
You can also use programs approaching 'crap cleaner' (free download, search for it) and it will remove most tmp files and useless files on the system, including repair your registry (use registry repair single if you are not a novice.)
try delete the not soo importatn files on the computer, keep the influential ones. and try to free up space, do what you can.
