Need relief installing driver for USB drive on my Windows 98SE PC?
Answer:
98 come out 10 years ago. If your hardware can't handle 2000 later you should try linux. 98 is really terrible for network and USB support, and it is not supported by MS anymore.
Hi. Win98 has limitations on what is compatible for USB devices. Check the MS website for any postponed drivers/updates. MS no longer supports Win98 but you may have access to heritage drivers/updates. Good luck!
What type of PC or motherboard? With Win98 Microsoft had to release a special release beside USB drivers.
UPDATE, here is a link to the inventive Microsoft USB update, Free download.

hope this helps!
PS. You can also identify the CHIPSET on your motherboard and turn to the manufacturers website and they should hold a drive specific to your PC hardware.
buy a new PC
budge to the control panel>system>device manager - check the USB component - see if nearby is any confict. If there is - remove and restart system lacking the usb drive. then reinstall driver.
Win98SE probably installed its home-grown driver for the usb drive thereby preventing the actual driver from being installed.
u requirement to identify which of the usb components (right click -see driver file beneath properties) and try to identify that file and own it removed (delete). and restart again.
if u r not sure which - take out one by one and hold your Win98SE cdrom standing by - if u removed the wrong one it will reinstall asking for the win98se cdrom or other usb driver that u have installed ahead of time.
a little troublesome if u r using Win98SE - possibly it is about time u move to Vista...
If you enjoy an AMD CPU, and ViaTech USB controller drivers, change them to "Standard USB Controller drivers", WIN98 have problems with that set up.
you know why? because window 98 does not support usb 2.0!!! it can only support 1.1!!! i know. its an ancient OS.
Check within your bois to see if the usb port is enable.
Be aware that Windows 98 can individual support USB if you are running '98 second edition. The original performance did not include any capacity for USB
