I have a compaq computer from about 3 years ago. I recently did system recovery and now my speakers don't work
Answers:
right click my computer and select manage and then find the device manager and right click the name of your computer at the top of the list select search for hardware changes then it should find the sound card if not u would have to know the brand but anyways when it finds it under sound video and game controllers and right click the sound card and select update the driver and then try playing a song if that don't work then try un-muting it then see if the volume is up (also to find out which one in the device manager is the sound card without knowing the brand is easy just look for a name of the device and sound controller or manager after it and that will be the sound card)
Compaqs suck. After three years it's time for an upgrade. I had one, and I'll never get another.
Go to control panel---system----hardware tab----find the audio device and see if its in there if it still says none, go to compaq's website and see if there is an update for the driver that might be why. That will be the first choice, or just redownload the audio driver and reinstall it. good luck hope this helps

Go to the web site and check for any updated drivers. Do you have them plugged in and volume turned up, vol. level on task bar too.
you need the drivers for you onboard sound card. you can get these at hp.com under downloads and drivers. simply select the model of your computer and it will let you get the latest drivers for your computer.
