My Dell laptop dosen't power off all the way.?
When I choose shutdown or Restart here is what happens:
First, it seems pretty normal...
"Saving your settings..." ,...etc...
and finally, "Window is shutting down.."
and the window goes away. And all the drives connected by USB turns off as well. So, I'm guessing the Windows itself has shut down.
But the computer itself doesn't power off.
Monitor stays on with the blue screen.
I always have to force shut off by pressing the power button for few seconds.
How can I fix this?
And is it safe to power off this way?

sounds like somthing screwy with the power supply .. i dont know exactly tho i would have to eliminate things one at a time ..
First of all, it is perfectly safe to hold the power button to shut down your computer. The reason some say not to is if you didn't save your files before you do this, they won't save.
You could always create a new text document on your desktop. Inside write "SHUTDOWN -s -t 01", and then save it as Shutdown.bat. This will create an icon on the desktop called "Shutdown" that will turn off your computer for you when you double-click it.
If your computer shows a blue screen at about anytime, you might have some other problems hardware or software related on your system. If you registered your laptop with Dell, I would call them, because they have free services and fixes for you under their warranty.
If it was my computer I would make sure it wasn't a software problem by backing up my data, and then reinstalling windows with the recovery discs your laptop came with.
If this doesn't fix it, or if at any time you feel uncomfortable get with a technician at Circuit City, CompUSA or somewhere that could have services to diagnose, backup data or do the work with a 30 day guarantee.
Good Luck.
