Is it better to leave your computer on all the time? Or should you turn it off at night?

Answers:
You should always shut your computer down, because it will do file sorting, by routine, when shutting down.

Also, key componets of a computer can become overheated by leaving them on. The fan that keeps it cool only has so many hours of use. The less you shut it down, the quicker the fan will go out & you'll need it to be repaired.
tun it off at night. it will save electricity. computers use a lot of electricity.
energy wise trun it off at night. it realy doesent matter tho I keep my computer on 24/7 I havent turned it off since december
Well, it's no biggie to turn it back on in the morning, so we turn ours off every night.
if you want it to start up fast, put it in Stand-By mode, it puts it in really low power mode, so its faster to boot back, and doesnt have to do a looooong load at startup. otherwise, yea turn it off, it saves $$ in electric bills
Despite what some will tell you, keeping it on all the time is actually bad for your computer. It cuts down on the lifetime of your PC and it wastes energy needlessly.

EDIT: Think of it this way. A computer is sort of like a car. You use it when you need it, and you turn it off when you don't. If you were using your car 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. How long do you think it would last in comparison to your other car that you only use twice a week?
you should turn it off @ night Coz if u dont its going to be slow
cut the plug
=p
u will save money
No doubt you should turn it off at night. Some of the newer CPU's have a new technology called EIST that will lower the speed of your CPU when it is left idle, but turn it off whenever you can.
Turning it off would be best for the system for a few reasons:

1: Saves power and can lower your electric bill.

2: Constant running can cause excess dust to collect on the cooling components of the computer. Dust is inevitable on a computer, but it will build up faster if the computer is left running all the time.

3: Running overnight can be a fire hazard because of the dust and if something happens to short circuit or overheat, you would most likely be asleep.

4: Your computer components will last longer. All computer parts have a MTBF (Mean time before failure). This is a measurement of approximately how long the component will last before it starts having problems. Mainly, just ceasing to function. Say a certian part has a 40,000 hour MTBF. If the computer is left running overnight, that component will have an average 4.6* year lifespan However, If turned off every night, it will have a longer lifespan. Say you have your computer on from 9A.M. to 10P.M. The component will now have a lifespan of 8.4** years.

5: [this only applies to components with moving parts] If left constantly spinning, fans and hard drives can easily wear out. Home computer components weren't designed to constantly be spinning.

Hope that helps!!

*: 40,000÷24[hours in a day]=1666 hours, 1666÷365=4.6 years

**: 40,000÷13[hours running]=3076 hours, 3076÷365=8.4 years

I didn't round up or down, just used what came before the decimal.
Here is my 2 cents. I helped my neighbor set up her new computer 3 years ago. She leaves it ON constantly. As of today, she has gone through 2 hard drives and 3 CRT monitors, of which I replaced for her. I told her not to leave her computer ON if she is not using it, but, you just can't tell a woman anything.
