Tons of software to install on 100's of 3yr old PCs. CD-ROM & 100mbs ethernet download is too slow! Help?

My IT dept. has 100's of various PCs all built about 3 years ago. They are all above 1Ghz speed and with 1mb RAM they run XP very well. I need some ideas to speed up the software installation. The applications are on CD-ROM and other in-house business software needs to come from the 100mbs Novell network.

These methods are too slow.

I need to increase the rate of data transfer into the XP computers. Ghosting or imaging does not work because the 3 year old machines all seem to be slightly different. Is there software to force XP to re-install these components after installing the image?

Would using an ATA133 controller card increase the hard disk drive rate of transfer?

What about the Novell network - Will a gigabit ethernet switch transfer faster to a gigabit NIC installed in the XP computer?

Is there a software package that can automate the installation process?

There just has to be a faster way to set up these computers!
