What's wrong with my hard drive?

Just bought a new computer, as it boots it tells me I have 2 298 GB hard drives, yet in the OS I have a 298 and a 50. How can I get it to display the right size, as two 298 GBs?

Answers:
are they partitioned correctly in the disk manager and if not you'll have to either create a new logical drive to gain access to the rest of the capacity of the drive or delete the 50 and create a new partition using all the drive capacity
well is it a pc or mac then ill answer your question....
You may be set up as a RAID 1, which actually takes two drives and mirrors them (two drives with the same info for added protection of data). Otherwise, you may not have the partitions setup correctly. If you're running Vista, you can repartition safely in the disk management tools - XP is a little trickier. (check Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management)

Don't delete the 50GB partition, it probably has the system restore files needed to redo your system in a failure. If you don't have system disks with the OS and pre-installed apps, check with your manufacturer on how to create or order them.
