a hd has several platters depending on the size whch is to store ur data. these platters spin as whn u use the pc. it spins to read and/or write date. whn these platters spin it creates heat as most electronic items do.
it all depends on the usage... most electronic items life span depend on the hours of usage. like 4 example an LED light can last abt 100,000 hours which is abt 10years... this simply means that if u on it 24hrs it might last up 2 10years. if u really know how 2 take care of ur hd it can last very long. so hd creates heat thus lessen their lifespan, so to make it last longer is to lessen the heat that it creates. u can get a hd cooler or make sure there's enuff ventilation in ur desktop or laptop. normally some ppl would a put a 12cm or 15cm casing fan infront of the hd 2 make sure tht the hd will be cooled by the fan.
anyway frm my experience my previous hd lasted 4 5years. my current hd now is already 3 years i thnk... 1st SATA generation 160gb n its almost full...
a hard disk lasts at least a good 10 years if you actively keep the disk in shape and stay clear of things that would damage it.
it should last about a decade I have one I got in 1998 and still in excelent working condition
ooo.. if u can keep care on it. it will be till about 15years.. or mayb it will be crash.. ifcrash u can ask to the service centre and ask for the data dat crash.. hua3. their engineer will solve for it.
It all depends on the usage of the computer; prone to virus or some sort of short-circuits, voltage fluctuation. I hv changed my hard-disk twice in a span of 5 years. Lucky ones get the best electronic products, I mean Electronic products are like that.
