DVD Multi Slowing down PC?
Firstly, my basic specs:
Intel Core Duo Functioning at ~3.8ghz total
2x SATA Drives - 100gb and ~400gb
3gb RAM
Windows XP SP2
Everything runs fine and dandy, until I insert anything into my DVD multi drive - I have had two replacement drives so far and they have all done the same! The moment I insert anything, the PC immediately slows down. If I try to watch a DVD, its almost like its catching up with the buffer too fast, I will get a few seconds, then a freeze constantly.
Other than that, it works fine, installing things is a steady speed and data transfer from optical to HDD is fine! It just slows the PC down to an insane level - which is stupid considering the spec of this thing!
Thanks in advance for any help!

This sounds like a power supply issue. Your machine appears to have more than sufficient memory resources, and I am guessing by your description you have a Core Duo 1.86 processor which isn't really 3.8ghz its actually just 2 processors running at 1.86ghz. Anyway, back to the problem at hand, if everything runs fine until you try reading from an optical drive, it tells me that without something in your optical drive, you system is using the maximum rated output of your system's power supply, thus when you insert a disk into the DVD drive and it activates drawing more power, everything slows down. I would suggest increasing the size of your power supply by 50-100watts. Most pre-built systems only have bare minimum power supplies installed for their original configuration as built. If you add anything to your system that draws power like a video card, another optical drive, or an additional hard drive, you probably should have replaced the power supply as well.
Are you downloading the updated drivers for the DVD drive?
if its just when watching DVDs it sounds like a problem with the player. Try downloading a different DVD playback program and see if that works. If not it could be a driver issue or an update to something thats conflicting with the playback program or the driver. I would look at either forums for the drives manufacturer website or look for user reviews for the drive that you bought because those are the 2 places people like to complain about stuff when it doesnt work properly with other stuff.
