An installation problem?
Thanks for your help!!

When the partition screen comes up, see if it gives you a couple of partitions to pick from. It almost seems like there is a problem with the partition table. If that is the case then you should probably just delete all the partitions and start with a clean slate. If it won't let you do this, then there may be an error on the disk itself.
Good Luck
For a clean install you want to delete all your partitions and merge them in to one empty one. If your laptop has more than one partition, it might have a recovery partition preinstalled by the manufacturer. They can both be deleted for a clean install. Glad to see you're sticking with XP, Vista is a nightmare.
Before Partitioning... Most laptops have a special partition to restore its operating system when damaged or needed, by pressing F11 or something (Check the manual) to restore at Booting.
So you may have this size (20 GB) reserved for the restore operation.
If you still need to Partition, try first using some kind of 3rd party software like Ontrack or PQ Magic and erase all the partitions, then install Windows XP.

you have to make sure that you are installing it on a new partition. you have to delete the whole drive. the 8095MB is only an 8GB drive that means that there are other partition that are on the drive look for other ones as well.
