Does defragmenting can impair your files?

my workstation getting slower. what should i do?

Answer:
No, simply tidies them up so that windows loads faster and is easier to access files.

Do a disk verbs up too. start menu, accessories, system tools, scroll down.

Good luck
it wont end in any problem it fragments the lost strings into chains
no not at all of late do it and things will be fine and your computer will work faster. My husband does our computer every weekend
Defragging does not harm your files, it merely rearrange the file clusters on disk so that they are more contiguous.

If you computer is going slower afterwards you need to identify the process explicitly draining your computer of all its resources. Use Task inspector to establish what is slowing your computer down.
Dragmenting shouldn't harm your files, unless you own a power failure whilst it's working - but it's no more chancy than a power cut whilst your working normally.

Defragmenting is a appropriate way to modernize performance on your PC, as when it's access files it will be much quicker if the files are surrounded by one piece, rather than fragmented across the disk.

Also, try uninstalling software that you no longer use - as this can also slow things down.
no, defragmenting your drive only just means that it moves blocks of notes that are the same files physically closer to one another on the harddrive so to develop harddrive reads. (ie it doesn't enjoy to go to one slice on the harddrive to read a section of a file, later a completely different area to read the rest of it.)

In my experience using the Defrag hasn't modified any files.
No, defragmenting a intricate drive or volume puts all the files on the tricky drive/volume back into contigous blocks on the device.

Defrag will increase the space available and create loaing files faster. This WILL NOT speed up your computer once you have the files loaded however.

You want to optimize the OS to speed up your computer.

Have a look at my site on some How to's for optimization.
No, defrag order database to it right spot. It like dictum your office space is a mess. You are working at 25% work effeminacy . If you verbs your space it goes up to 55%. That what defag does.
I own answered that previously to someone in the implicit past that Defragmentation and scan disk are failure to pay functions in window (not some installed programs) so there is no mode they will harm your files or folders and you must defragment your drives frequently including scan disk and approaching other friends said it will improve the speed of your workstation.
just after you boot your PC, hold down control alt and delete together to see what programs start beside windows start up.

turn to start run and type msconfig
go to the start tab and disable adjectives non important start up items

administer your PC files a good "spring clean" delete any unnecessary files BEFORE defrag

defrag machine

may bring in a difference but best way is to upgrade memory

at hand is a slight risk with defrag especially if you try to use PC while defrag surrounded by progress

the worst thing of adjectives is a power cut in the middle of defrag - that can render PC unbootable - resourcefully.. you did ask lol

most of the time all will be ably - after all, your most precious flies can be restored from a backup cant they?
you enjoy got backup right?
Defragging doesn't hurt your files.

When you save something on your unyielding disk it's not always the bag that this file will be save in one "chunk", it may be save as several chunks depending on how much space is used on your hard drive. Defragging is the rearrangement of these chunks so they are not spread out, but adjectives in complete report blocks.

Defragging won't always speed up your PC, you may powerfully notice that some files stretch out quicker though.

If you have closely running in the surroundings (ctrl+alt+del -> task mediator -> processes tab, sort by user to see what is running against you) this might slow your PC down. Search for the names of the processes planned in the project manager against you username on google and it will bestow you an idea as to what they are. End the processe you don't necessitate.

These process are started when the computer starts up. You can modify what starts up by going to start -> run and typing msconfig and pressing return. The startup tab is where the processes contained by your task leader come from. You can then choose which you do or don't want running on startup.

Viruses and spyware will also slow your computer down. Use AVG antivirus to draw from rid of the viruses and spybot rummage and destroy to go and get rid of the spyware. You should be able to find both as free downloads by inquiring on google.

If you are low on disk space this might also effect the speed onf your PC as windows uses a bit of the not easy disk to read and write temporary stuff to and from. If this bit of disk isn't big ample you might need to delete some stuff bad your hard disk (temp, conditional internet files, the recycle bin are all angelic places to start).

Hope that helps. Good luck.
This is what you should do if your window XP

This is going to be long but I try to be very thorough and make a contribution as much detail as possible to make this easier for you. The steps below will increase your PC's celebration dramatically and if followed on a regular basis will save your PC running like exotic for years to come.

First of all we have need of to disable programs from loading when Windows starts up. This will improve your comuter's startup time and you can run any of the programs as you requirement them instead of having them spend foolishly system resources when you are not using them.

To do this you need to shift to "Start" then "All Programs" find and right click on the "Startup" folder and select "Open" Once the folder is friendly go to "Edit" and chose "Select All" later go to "File" and select "Delete". This will remove these programs from the adjectives startup folder.

Now we need to disable other programs from starting up that do not appear surrounded by the startup folder.

To do this we need to dance to "Start" then click on "Run". In the box type surrounded by "msconfig" without quotes and next hit enter. When the System configuration utility opens, select the "Startup" tab. Uncheck everything except for your Antivirus and Firewall programs. (If you are unsure of a process given name please google it before disabling it) Click "Close" on the bottom right corner. Once you hold closed the confiruation utility you will be prompted to restart. Go ahead and restart. When the computer restarts you will be alerted that you are using selective startup. Click the box that says "Never show this message again" and later click "OK"

Now we need to remove any facts or programs that you no longer need or use. First budge to "Start" then "Control Panel" afterwards "Add/Remove Programs" When the list is populated shift through it and remove any programs or applicatons you do not use or need. If you are unsure of a program than start out it alone. Once you have done this browse any places that you may store files and delete any that you do not have need of or want anymore. Once you have done adjectives of this go to the desktop and right click on the "Recycle Bin" and select "Empty Recycle Bin" Doing this will free up not easy drive space and also cut down on hard drive hope time.

Now we need to disable some of the ocular special effects as they are not even really noticable but require system resources.

To do this we need to budge to "Start" then right click on "My Computer" afterwards select "Properties".

In the System Properties sheet click on the "Advanced" tab. When you are in the Advanced tab click on "Settings" below "Performance". In the settings box check "Adjust for best performance" then scroll down the schedule checking the following boxes:

Show window contents whie dragging
Use adjectives tasks in folders
Use visiual styles on window and buttons

Now click on "Apply" then "Ok" to exit the actions settings box then click on "OK" contained by the system properties box to exit. Now on the desktop. Right click an empty space and select "Properties" this will bring up the display properties. Click on the "Appearance" tab and click on the "Effects" button. Uncheck adjectives the boxes except for the last 2 after click on "Apply and "OK"

Now lets run a full system virus scan using what ever antivirus program you may hold. Make sure that your definition files are up to date prior to performing the scan. If you do not have an AntiVirus program you can receive a fee one here:

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/downloads-pr...

This is the free reworked copy of AVG Antivirus. It updates and scans every morning to ensure your computer stays virus free.

Also if you inevitability a good firewall program you can attain ZoneAlarm free editoin here:

http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/c...

During installation you may be prompted to try PRO DO NOT TRY PRO or you will only carry a 15 day trial and hold no firewall afer the trial runs out. Just use and install the free edition.

Now we will download and install 2 more programs to remove ad/spyware from your computer. The first of the 2 is going to be Adaware found here: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_a... Once this program has installed, check for updates after after you download the updated definition files if any then click on Next later select "Perform full system scan" then click "Next" The scan will start and will display results as it scan. When the scan is complete click on "Next" for the list to appear after make sure adjectives items are checked and then click the "Next" button again. A box will come up asking you if you want to remove x number of results click yes or OK which ever the risk may be. Once this is complete close the program.

Now lets download and install Spybot S&D from here: http://www.download.com/3000-8022-101221... Once installed run the program. Usually the first time you start Spybot S&D it will run through a setup wizard which includes making a registry final up, checking for updates and imunizing the system and such After this is complete select "Check for problems". This will now scan your computer for ad/spyware. I use both programs to ensure that adjectives of the ad/spyware is removed as 1 program will pick up what the other may miss.

Once all of these are finished we call for to clean your easier said than done drive and registry of junk and temp files. I use a program call CCleaner to do this. Go here to download. http://www.ccleaner.com Download and isntall. Once the program is installed run the program. Note on the left side are your tab for different tools in the program. We will start near the cleaner tab. You will see a list of check boxes and 2 tab (Windows and applications) By default the program open in the window tab. Scroll through the list checking adjectives the boxes (Note if you have any save passwords either write them down or uncheck the save passwords box) Then click on the "Applicatons" tab and check all the boxes here as economically. When checking the last set of boxes lower than the windows tab you will attain a confirmation box up for each one click yes on them adjectives unless you do not want a specific one cleaned. Now at the bottom click the "Analyze" button. This will scan your computer for junk files and create a record of them. Once the list is up click on the "Run Cleaner" button to delete adjectives of the listed files.

Now on the departed hand side, click on the "Issues" tab. This sector will scan, fix and clean the window registry. Check all the boxes surrounded by the list after click "Check for issues" This will scan the registry and bring up a list of invalid registry key. When the list is populated click the "Fix Issues" button You will recieve a prompt to liberate a backup. Save this to a place of your liking next in the subsequent box that pops up click "Fix Selected Issues" then OK or Yes on the confirmation box. Once this is done close out of the program.

Now let tune your internet connection for optimal narration. To do this we will ned to download TCP Optimiizer from here: http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php. Download this to where ever you want. There is no installation required I would create a current folder and put the program in this modern folder as it generates a set of files when run. When you run it you can either manually configure respectively setting yourself or go to the bottom and select optimal settings Then click on Apply change. You may get a log showing the change that the program will make and a confirmation box to adopt the changes. If and when prompted adopt the changes. You may be required to restart your computer to finish the process. If so shift ahead and do that now.

After restarting we should defragment your unyielding drives. When programs are installed and data is save to your hard drive the drive puts the information in the first available chunk of free space and because of this files may be split up into oodles pieces to make them fit appropriately. Defragmenting rearanges all the facts on your hard drive so that pieces of files are put rear together so that they are all within one place on the drive instead of being sprinkled about. This will sort files and programs open faster as the tricky drive will not have to survey for all the pieces and put them together earlier opening a directory or program. To defragment go to "Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter. Once the disk defragmenter open. click on the drive you wish to defragment from the enumerate at the top then click the "Defragment" button. This may pilfer some time depending on how big your hard drive is and how much information you have stored on it so be paitent.

All of the programs down above are all FREE but drastically powerful tools. If you follow these instructions your computer will run in tip top shape. You should repeat adjectives of this once a week or so. If you are a heavy computer user afterwards i would do it more often or when ever your computer seem to act sluggish.

I hope this help Good luck
