Im confused about computer processors.?
Answers:
First with clockspeed (thats the thing being measured in ghz).
The clockspeed is not the only thing that determines how fast a processor is, it only says how many cycles the processor goes through per second. You also need to take in to account how much work the processor actually does per cycle and how efficient the processor is with it's cycles.
For example
A processor at 4GHz but doing only 1 calculation every other cycle won't stand a chance against a processor at 2GHz doing 2 calculations every single cycle.
Luckly, when comparing processors of the same family (So all the Pentium 4s, all the Centrino Core 2s) everything but the clockspeed remain generally the same so a 4GHz Pentium 4 is roughly twice as fast as a 2GHz Pentium 4, but there is no guarantee that it's even faster than a 2GHz Centrino Core 2.
In your case the Centrino Core 2 is way more efficient so 2.6GHz is more than enough for it to be faster than a 3.6GHz Pentium 4.
In terms of Cores, it's like having 2 CPUs in 1 (or 4 for the Quad) so theoritically you run twice as fast as you would with a single core, but in the real world thats not the case. Alot of programs are only designed to be run with 1 CPU so your dual core would only be using 1 of it's 2 cores to work on the program. And even for programs designed to run with 2 CPUs, most of them arn't optimized enough that you'd actually see a doubling of speed.
So in summary
3.6 GHz Intel Pentium 4 - Slowest
2.6 GHz Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo - Fast and for some programs may be just as Fast as the Quad
2.6 GHz Intel Centrino Core 2 Quad - Fastest on some programs, equal to the Core 2 Duo on others
3.6 is faster the more ghz the more spped you have example you can now get up to 5.8
no
the core 2 dou's are faster than the older dual core HT cpus and use less wattage and are on a smaller die fab
The core 2 duo is definitely faster! I have a core 2 quad 2.4 ghz and it blazes through everything! Also, having more cores is faster because it allows the computer to work at more problems at once. For more info I highly recommend
