What's taking so long in developing a faster processor?
Answers:
They are more interested in performance and quality at the moment. Example. 3.4 Pentium 4 is actually slower and less efficient than 2.0 Core 2 Duo. Plus additional FSB and cache provide better speeds. They are actually getting better and faster at a much quicker rate it just doesnt look that way at first glance. That 640 memory comment above is retarded. I have 8gb memory and use almost 2gb all the time. PERFORMANCE! PERFORMANCE! PERFORMANCE!
Since "640 megabytes is all the RAM anybody will every need"...surely they'll never need a processor faster than 3.4GHz
:-}
Sorry been busy
What? Quad core not fast enuf for ya? Call IBM, they got a main frame with your name on it. If ya got a couple hundred grand
.
Lol, back in 2003 i remember intel selling 3.6Ghz Pentium 4's.
The reason you dont go bigger than that with faster cores, they become incredibly hot.
Intel's Core 2 Duo processors may not be running at 3.6 Ghz.. but they are a hell of a lot faster than an intel Pentium 4 running at 3.6 Ghz.
A processor's speed (Whatever Gigahertz) does not equate to how fast the processor is.
New generation of cpus are coming out at end of year from Intel. And cpus with 8 cores are coming late next year. The age of mutlithreading is here. The big single-threading cpus are yesterdays news. The 3.6 and 3.8 have been out for years!
it was about a year and half back, the ferrari's started getting beaten by the fiat's, bikes & even mule carts
plenty many got mired in paddy fields and sand tracks
. the mule carts merrily trotted away., needless to say
that is when they took stock and saw for themselves that raw speed aint getting them nowhere
ground work started in all earnest, better roads, wider roads, better signalling, flyovers & such
fsb, cache, core, architecture are the analogy
resultant > inproved ipc or instructions per cycle
... a sooper fast clock cycle doing few intructions mean little
that you mention 3.4 ghz, just thought of posting current stocks from tigerdirect
this celeron d360, 3.46 ghz at $50
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/...
& this core 2 extreme qx6700, 2.66 ghz at $1,060
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/...
hope this gives you some clue for the so long delay !
